Houston Volunteer Fire Company held their Annual Fire Prevention & Community Awareness day on August 8th, 2015 at 10:00am. HVFC whistle blew throughout the community for the starting of the parade. All of HVFC apparatus was in the parade as well as other companies such as Memorial Fire Company (Station 89), Ellendle (Station 75), Carlisle (Station 42), Harrington (Station 50), Frederica (Station 49), Bowers (Station 40), EOD, St Dan (Delaware State Police), Trooper 2, Life Net, Delaware State Fire School, Delaware Forestry, Millsboro VFW, Kennedyville, MD (Station 4), Galena, MD (Station 3).

Delaware State Police provided demonstration showing the community how the k9's do their job. They asked the kids a lot of questions such as what type of dogs they used and what kind of jobs they do while on the job themselves. They also explain the training they do with the dogs, how long the training is for the dogs, how young the dogs are when they get the dogs.

EOD provided a demonstration on how the bomb robot is used. They also answered many questions from the community as well as allowed the community to look at their humvee.

HFVC prepared a vehicle extrication demo to educate the community as to what happens when HVFC gets dispatched to a MVC( Motor Vehicle Collision). They also showed how a patient injured is removed from the vehicle.

HFVC also had a Bucket Brigade Competition. Kennedyville, Galena, Bowers, Harrington & Houson VFC competed. Kennedyville & Galena joined forces and came in first, Bowers along with one of Harrington's member came in second and houston took third place.

Houston Fire Company had a huge turn out with approximately 400 people. we had plenty of fun for the children with a dunking booth, water slide, as well as plenty of food and snow cones for all to enjoy. HVFC would like to thank the community, all th fire companies as well as the vendors who came out to support us on the beautiful and great day.
